tranquility

Click the thumbnail for a desktop sized photo :)

On our way home from a visit to Pioneer, we saw this incredible sunset. As beautiful as this shot is, what we first saw was even more spectacular. But in the 3 minutes it took us to pull off the road and find a nice place to shoot from the sun had dipped below the horizon. Who knew the sun was so speedy?

Alert: can't keep up with horny women

Most of the time, I do away quickly with spam, but sometimes it's just too amusing to pass up! I recently received an email from Merle Dodge with the titular alert. Inside was only some gibberish and a link. Sigh... I guess I'll just have to rely on the emergency broadcasting system to alert me of horny women like everyone else.

It's hypercube madness!!!

Okay, so those images are just for Bejewelled 2 geeks, but I really wanted to post these shots for posterity. I was amazed and thought it not possible when I managed 8 hypercubes, then Cathryn continued the game and added another!

In non-geek, but random news, my cousin emailed me a post card invitation to join her/some Christian church. I know she means well, but I wonder if Christian folk know just how insulting it is to presume they are entitled to proselytize whenever they feel like it, especially to people who have already TOLD them that they are not interested in that flavor of faith! Maybe I should tell her that I rather enjoy sex with small furry animals and would gladly join the church if I could pass out pamphlets there saying how great it is.

The word of the day is...
hyperbole [hi • pur • buh • lee] ~ noun
1. obvious and intentional exaggeration.
2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”
3. when you accomplish anything in life, give credit to God, because that's who really did it, not you.

A work weekend is just plain wrong!

I think working during the weekend must be catchy, because now Cathryn is doing it too! Sigh... there just isn't enough hours during the day or week, is there?

In more uplifting, fun news, we have finally joined the ranks of Netflix subscribers. In fact, I have to stop myself from spending hours picking out and rating movies. With our current plan, I think we'll have stuff to watch for the next two years!

During this past week, for no reason at all, I decided to capture the dichotomy of food in my life. I put some grapes on one of our Zazen plates and thought they looked like they'd make a great food shot. Later that lunch, I pulled some leftover pizza out of the fridge and ate it with the same fervor that I had for the grapes (mmmm...foooood). I found it curious how I could enjoy both foods so much, and yet they have almost a complete opposite effect on the health of my diet. Just between you, me, and the plate though, I think I enjoyed the pizza more (big surprise, huh?).

And for the latest completely random tangent, I just wanted to let everyone know that starting a few months ago (eh, probably many, many months and moons ago), if you're signed into your Google account, all your Google searches are indexed and saved. I'm all for targeted ads and all, but this type of tracking was just a bit too much for me, so I turned that option off (I would not like my searches for porn, work stuff, fun stuff, shopping stuff, and porn all mixed together, thank you very much). It's kind of hidden, so you'll have to hunt for it if you want to do the same (hint: look for the 'search history' link next to your sign in name).

di·chot·o·my [dahy-kot-uh-mee] ~ noun
1. division into two parts, kinds, etc.; subdivision into halves or pairs.
2. division into two mutually exclusive, opposed, or contradictory groups: a dichotomy between thought and action.
3. Botany. a mode of branching by constant forking, as in some stems, in veins of leaves, etc.
4. Astronomy. the phase of the moon or of an inferior planet when half of its disk is visible.
5. A fancy word one uses to sound smart.

Bamboozled

The title really doesn't have anything to do with this blog entry (like I've never done that before), but for whatever reason, bamboozled popped into my head so it's the word of the day for me :)

Any way, long ago during a drunken Napa wine tour, I came across these *delicious* crackers. They were at some winery and they were FREE. So after drunkenly having one, (did I mention I was drunk?) I loudly declared just how great they were and ate several more in quick succession (think Cookie Monster style). Then I looked up and saw the proprietor with a very interesting expression on his face. It was disdain slash horror slash disgust slash trying to be nice all at the same time (and in that order). So of course I stopped – until he went to go help someone else and then I ate a bunch more. Sadly, I remembered the look of the box, but could never figure out the flavor.

Fast forward to last weekend when Cathryn and I wandered around at the Market Place in the Ferry Building. We were buying cheese at the Creamy Cow (or something like that) when I once again found my beloved crackers! I lucked out and chose the correct flavor that I had forgotten - Seed! So do yourself a favor if you're a lover of wine + cheese + crackers (or just the last two) and pick yourself up a box from your local chi chi cheese shop and enjoy some cracker luxury!

Vegas, baby!

Vegas, August 2003. Not the best shot in the world, but I do so love the neon glow.

So my word of the day: copacetic \koh-puh-SET-ik\ adj : very satisfactory

Although I know the word, I don't think I've ever used it in writing or in speech. But for some reason I find it amusing. The next time someone asks me how my day is going, I'm going to answer, "It's fucking copacetic, man!" (even if it's a girl who asks - BIG points coming my way!!).
